And All The Day You’ll Have Good Luck

It’s almost my Bigs birthday! I wrote this poem about her and figured now is a good of a time as any to post it. I admire her selflessness and I am glad I have her to look up to.

I dart around ladders

instead of confidently passing under.

You will not catch me crossing paths

with a silky midnight cat.

But she would see a penny

boasting the Lincoln Memorial

and turn it over in the street.

You’ll have bad luck,

I remind her.

The penny’s not facing up.

Yes, she responds,

but now it’s facing up

for someone else.
